Event Report by Chris Farmer |
This was the paint and auto-body tech session we have done in quite a while. In fact it was the first one of this type that I have experienced and I really enjoyed it. Fred Hall, the owner gave us a thorough tour of his facility and gave some in-depth insight into body work, paint and other services that he provides and the processes involved in supplying these services to his clients. He discussed the various differences between the waterborne paints that he uses and the base-coat clear-coat paints that most shops are using. Once that was done he took us over to his second building and gave us a look at some of the body work setups that he had, like alignment tables and frame stretchers. At Ted Both’s request he finished up in his storage room where he had a client’s project in waiting, or should I say what was left of it. The poor old Bentley was there…kind of. Fred suspects when they finally go to blast it in prep for work that it will come back looking like swiss cheese and I am not inclined to disagree. About the only thing I have seen worse is the before pictures of Phil Parcell’s prototype GT-E. The day ended with a nice lunch at Sockeye’s on lake Tye in Monroe. Some of us cruised by Jim and Elaine Pinkerton’s house to take a look at the progress on Elaine’s 34 Street Rod project and then we all parted ways. Many thanks go out to Ted for arranging this highly informative tech session and to Fred Hall for putting it on. I hope to see you all at Buffalo Restorations in Puyallup on March 6th for the shop tour Ted has arranged there. If the weather is good I plan to bring one of my Cougars out of moth-ball and encourage you to do the same. |
