Event Report by Chris Farmer

This years Prowl weekend was one of the best we have had in a long time. Hot weather and a bounty of cars made the 2010 installment a big success. The weekend started with a pre-Prowl BBQ at Judy Anders’ house.  New club member Mike Kennedy and his brother Ryan came in all the way from Idaho for the picnic and all the usual suspects were there, twenty-eight total.  Nine  of us braved the afternoon heat to bring out our cars.  As is always the case many a cougar story was swapped, food was eaten and a great time was had by all that attended.  Ironically it was discovered that Mike Kennedy’s car used to be owned by Pat Price, certainly is a small world when it comes to Cougars.  Many thanks to Judy Anders for opening up her home to all of us again, she is always a great host.

Then came the big day, Sunday.  It was a hot day where shade was at a premium. We had a big uptick in attendance this year with a total of 91 cars in attendance, albeit some a little later than others.  As it turns out Mike Kennedy had his fan hit a hose and in the process take out his radiator.  Quick thinking and luck got him a radiator and other needs to fix delivered to Prowl via the Cascade Classics caravan.  This unfortunate mishap earned Mike Kennedy the Hard Luck award.

As usual the 67-68 cars dominated the field with very large class participations.  The specialty class had four  cars in it, two  of which were new cars to the show.  Ken Miller brought his GT-E that he has had since high school up from Washougal and John Benoit brought his 70 428CJ eliminator out for its debut fresh off a full concourse restoration.  Ken’s car looked great and I was glad to finally get to see it.  I play softball with his brother-in-law and have known about the car for a while now so it was really neat to see the car instead of just pictures.  John’s Eliminator is certainly what I have come to expect from him.  The car is impeccable in every aspect.  John was rewarded for his hard work with the Best of Show award.  We also had a great showing for the 71-73 class this year.  The class was highlighted by Chris Long’s '71 429CJ GT that he brought up from Arizona.  We also had some great non-Cougar participants including a '56 Continental Mk II, some great Edsels and an Australian Falcon owned by Jeff and Christine Green.  The 1978 Aussie Falcon has been a main stay at Prowl in the past and I was really glad to see it back. Jeff and Christine were rewarded for their return to Prowl with the Best of Show Non-Cougar award.

Prowl 2010 was great and I am already looking forward to our next show.  Be sure to mark your calendar for 2011 and attend.  Many thanks go out to Neal Jacobson our show director and to all the volunteers that make it happen.  Also thanks goes out to XXX Root Beer for providing the show site and to Don Skinner for producing the newsletter and the 40th Anniversary of the 70 Cougar magazine.  Here’s hoping to see all of you in 2011.
