CASCADE COUGAR CLUB

MUSEUM OF FLIGHT TOUR

January 8,2011

Event Report , and Pictures by Chris Farmer

I would like to open this report in a little different fashion than I have in the past.  I want to open with a hearty thank you to Ted Both,  for his hard work on planning some new events to freshen things up for the club members some.  Personally speaking I had a great time at the Museum of Flight and would definitely go again.

Fourteen members arrived bright and early and were ready to go the second the doors opened.  The first hour of the day was a free for all.  My daughter Ashlyn and I wandered and looked at many aircraft and displays.  Then at eleven   we gathered back up as a group and went on a guided tour with a docent.  He proceeded to take us through the entire history of flight from its inception up to modern times.  We walked through the museum looking at many historically important models from the Wright brother’s plane up to the MD-21 better known as the SR-71 Blackbird.  One aircraft of particular interest to club members was the Grumman F9F Cougar.  It was pretty neat to go to a flight museum and still get to see a cougar, especially one we had not seen before. After the tour ended many of us stopped for a quick bite to eat in the cafeteria.  Then we split off again and went our own ways.  Ashlyn and I along with Jim Compton went on board the Concorde and the version of Air Force 1 that served Kennedy and then finished up in the wings that covered WWI and WWII aircraft.  We all gathered back near the entrance and said our goodbyes.  I would certainly call this event successful and enjoyable.  Here is hoping we see you at future events.
