By Jim Compton Attending the Hillsboro All Ford Show, near Portland, Oregon, is becoming a Cascade tradition, as is the rib feast served up by Cheryl and Don Skinner Friday night before the Saturday show. This year we had a super turnout and a great time. The Skinner's rib feast with potluck side dishes was a truly fabulous start to the weekend. Guests included Jeff and Noel Bingaman with their friend Mike; John, Susan, Roman, and Cameron Benoit; John Howell; Ted and Lucie Both; Jim and Elaine Pinkerton; Jim and Sandy Hall; Marc Ogren; Dave Nashif; Bill Herbert; Jim Compton; Ken and Ruth Hogenkamp; Dennis and Mary Welch; and Michael MacSems. Saturday, most of us were up early to finish cleaning cars and get a good spot in line at the fairgrounds entrance. We had our usual area just inside the entrance, which made our 16 Cougars a great visual attraction for drawing spectators into the grounds. In all, the show drew 360 entries. At least 110 of those cars were Mustangs of all years and varieties. Eight Cougars made up the 1967/68 class, with Jeff Bingaman's red '68 XR-7 winning the gold and Dave Nashif's black 1968 XR-7 taking second place honors. There were also eight Cougars in the 1969-1973 class, where Boss Eliminators ruled the day. Linda and Dick Donahoo won the second place trophy with their green 1970 Boss 302 Eliminator and Susan and John Benoit's blue '70 Boss 302 Elim captured the gold. Demonstrating the versatility of the Cascade Cougar Club's members, Marc Ogren's 1947 Lincoln won second place in its class, while Lucie and Ted Both took a first in class with their black 1978 Marquis. Elaine and Jim added a second place award to the Pinkerton trophy collection for their silver 2000 Saleen Mustang. Only two things could make this show better: about 15 fewer degrees of heat and even more CCC members and Cougars. Start planning on it for next year. Pre-registration is encouraged so the host club is able to allot adequate space for us. |
