MUSTANGS AND COUGARS AT THE COURTHOUSE

Event Report

by Chris Farmer

What can I say, another great year at the Courthouse. The North Olympics Mustang Club held its 25th annual Mustang and Cougar show at the Clallam County Courthouse. There were scattered showers along the drive out but for the most part it was cool, dry and cloudy.

I did not count total cars but there were 13 Cougars Present, which is over double what we had on 2007. I am glad to see participation up on a day with questionable weather! Members present were as follows: Chris & Jill Farmer, Dan & Dixie Miniken, Dave Nashif, Neal Jacobson, Scott Ferguson & Heather Whitaker, Jim & Elaine Pinkerton, John Howell, Jeff, Carol & Sam Bingaman, Jim Compton, Victor Higgins, Bridgett Schoolfield, Curtis G. Maki, Jim & Jan Murphy, Donna & Doug Mattson, Larry Decker and Dennis, Mary and Kyle Welch.

Almost every Cougar that attended came home with awards. In the 67-68 class Larry Decker took first, Jim & Jan Murphy took second and Doug & Donna Mattson took Third. In the 69-70 coupe class, Dan & Dixie Miniken took first, Bridgett Schoolfield took second and Jim Compton took third. Dave Nashif took first in the 69-70 convertible class. For the 71 to present class Victor Higgins took first and John Howell took second. The specialty cougars class (XR7-G, GT-E and Elim.) ended up with Jim & Elaine Pinkerton in first with their G, Scott Ferguson & Heather Whitaker in second with their G and Chris & Jill Farmer in third with their GT-E. In addition Jim Compton brought home the long distance Award for traveling all the way from the Tri-Cities. A hearty congratulations to all.

Please start planning to come over here for their 26th annual show next year.  Those coming over on show day can take part in a cruise from Fife or a ferry trip to either Kingston or Bainbridge.  Those coming over on Friday have a choice of several good restaurants in Port Angeles or can make a dinner stop in Sequim at the Highway 101 Diner on Washington Street.  The Highway 101 is a ‘50s-style diner with a motif split between cars and movies.  You’ll like the food, too.  Shoppers can also walk 3 blocks from the show to the Retroville store with its collection of old objects, or visit any of the other fine antique and unique stores in Port Angeles.  You’ll also have the option of driving west of Port Angeles to photograph your Cougar or Mustang next to Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park. (Paragraph taken from Jim Compton’s report last year, but could not have put it better)

On a side note for next year, please make sure to put the Cascade Cougar Club down as your club affiliation on your registration forms. We had the largest club participation but did not get credited with it as not participants listed their affiliation.
